Oval opening for Wisden 150

150 guests were treated to some fabulous food and a feast of cricket conversation as Mike Atherton, Allan Donald and Jeremy Snape took to the stage at the inaugural lunch of the Wisden 150 Club.

Since joining forces with Wisden early last year, TriNorth, in association with All Out Cricket, have worked on several projects with the long-established and iconic cricket brand, providing editorial and commercial support and, now, events management services.

The Wisden 150 Club marks the start of the celebrations for the 150th edition of the world-famous Wisden Almanack, due out in early 2013, and the Kia Oval served as the perfect venue for this special lunch, staged just three days before the start of the first Test between England and South Africa.

Taking time out from his day job as the Proteas’ bowling coach, Donald went head-to-head with Atherton for the first time this century to discuss the finer (and fruitier!) points of their many famous duels, whilst former England bowler and MD of Sporting Edge Snape provided fascinating insight into the psychology of top-level sport and the techniques used by today’s elite athletes.

With Almanack editor Lawrence Booth overseeing proceedings, the conversation was as entertaining as it was wide-ranging, while guests also got the chance to put their own questions to all three panelists.

A delicious three-course lunch was perfectly complemented by wine courtesy of Davy’s wine merchants, and with a plate full of cheese for every guest there were plenty of happy faces come 4 o’clock.

Commenting on the event, Richard Charkin, Chairman of John Wisden & Co., said: “150 guests, great food, and excellent wine – there could not have been a better launch to a Test series ever.”
