TriNorth run rings around PCA

With cricket, football and netball teams already a part of TriNorth’s ‘after school’ activity, another string was added to our extra-curricular bow on August 7, when our rounder’s team took to the field for the first time to play near neighbours the Professional Cricketers’ Association in Kennington Park.

After a bit of practice to get into the swing of things (and a chance for our South African team members to encounter the game for the very first time, the game got underway. A sensational start, saw Matt ‘the whacker’ Thacker send one long and Matt Sidebottom demonstrate some impressive sliding technique as TriNorth recorded 7.5 in their first innings.

In reply, the PCA demonstrated some consistent hitting, but with Ed Kemp and Joe Provis snaffling anything that came their way, they could only muster 5.5 rounders. So, at the halfway stage, TrINorth had a clear advantage, but the tie was still in the balance.

Some early recklessness from TriNorth yielded runs but also several dismissals, and it was up to Ed Davis and Sandra Olmesdahl to take the team to 14 runs. The PCA tried valiantly to score the 9 runs that would take them to an improbable victory, but more smart catching from Messrs. Kemp and Provis secured a 14-11 win for Team TriNorth.

Three weeks later we lost 19.5-10.5 to the Cricket Foundation, but we’ll forget about that one…
